RAAEY & ERC deepen cross‑border cooperation
RAAEY & ERC deepen cross‑border cooperation through two Technical Workshops in 2025
As active members of the Balkan Energy School, the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water of Greece (RAAEY) and the Energy and Water Services Regulatory Commission of North Macedonia (ERC) continued to strengthen their bilateral cooperation through two dedicated technical workshops held in 2025, following the Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier that year.
These joint activities reflect the BES community’s shared commitment to fostering capacity‑building, knowledge exchange, and regulatory excellence across the region.
1st Workshop on Water Services Regulation – Ohrid, 9–10 July 2025
Earlier in the year, RAAEY’s Water Division and ERC convened in Ohrid for a two‑day workshop dedicated to water services. Key topics included:
- Water tariff design
- Loss measurement and reduction strategies
- Service quality enhancement
- Innovation and modernization of water utilities
2nd Workshop on Energy & Water Regulation – Thessaloniki, 6–7 November 2025
Hosted by RAAEY at ΕΒΕΤΗ in Thessaloniki, the second bilateral workshop brought together teams from both Authorities for focused discussions on:
- Updates to regulatory frameworks in Greece and North Macedonia
- Evaluation and certification of water utilities
- Tariff methodologies and revenue models
- Network losses and pricing implications
- Transparency and stakeholder engagement
Interactive sessions, case studies, and open exchanges underscored the value of coordinated regulatory approaches across the Balkan region.
Advancing Regional Synergies
Both workshops highlighted the increasing alignment between the two BES member Authorities, reaffirming their commitment to improving the regulation and oversight of energy and water services. These initiatives showcase how bilateral cooperation directly contributes to the broader goals of the Balkan Energy School: stronger institutions, shared expertise, and a more integrated regulatory landscape across the region.
