Agreement signed by Ministers Pichetto and Šahmanovic in the presence of Prime Minister Spajić.

Rome, October 23, 2025 – The Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, and the Minister of Energy and Mines of Montenegro, Admir Šahmanovic, signed the bilateral memorandum of understanding on electricity market integration between Italy and Montenegro today at the MASE, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić.

“The signing of this agreement,” Minister Pichetto Fratin emphasized, “is testament to the excellent relations between Italy and Montenegro in the energy sector and the strong collaboration on key issues such as energy security and Podgorica’s European path. This agreement supports Montenegro’s integration into the Italian and European electricity markets, fostering the strengthening of interconnections between the two countries, which have already been able to rely on the “Monita” electricity transmission link since 2019.

“We are closely monitoring this process,” Minister Pichetto Fratin assured the Montenegrin delegation, “and we believe that the agreement signed today will help expedite the next steps.”
