BES organized the 9th General Assembly alongside the Workshop on CBAM
13th May 2026, Rome
The Balkan Energy School (BES), organized at ARERA premises in Rome the 9th General Assembly, bringing together the association’s members to discuss future activities, training projects and initiatives aimed at integrating the European and Balkan energy markets.
Alongside the General Assembly a Workshop dedicated to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism took place with the objective of examining the implications of the implementation of the new European mechanism, in force since 1 January 2026 and explored its expected impacts on regional electricity markets, including electricity prices, cross-border exchanges, market design, and system operations. Discussions also highlighted ongoing decarbonization efforts and the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and regulatory alignment.
The workshop, opened by Livio de Santoli, BES Chairperson and ARERA member of the Board, was attended by representatives of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, the Energy Community Secretariat and Terna.
The events once again confirmed the important role of BES as a regional platform for cooperation, knowledge exchange, research, and capacity building among energy regulators and stakeholders across the Euro-Balkan region.
