BES Participation in the EUSAIR Thematic Workshop on the Master Plan on Energy
Trieste, 27 November 2025
The Balkan Energy School (BES) was honored to participate in the EUSAIR Thematic Workshop on the Master Plan on Energy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region, held on 27 November 2025 at the Palace of the Presidency in Trieste, Italy. Organized within the framework of the Thematic Steering Group 2 (TSG2) on Energy of EUSAIR Pillar 2 – “Connecting the Region” – the event brought together policymakers, regulators, operators, and experts from across Europe to discuss the evolving energy outlook, priorities, and long-term prospects for the region. The workshop focused on shaping the forthcoming EUSAIR Master Plan on Energy, a critical strategic document designed to guide the region’s pathway towards a secure, decarbonised, and better-connected energy system aligned with the European Green Deal.
BES as a Key Contributor to the Round Table Discussion
Mr. Salvatore Lanza as representative of ARERA one of BES members took part as a distinguished speaker in the Round Table dedicated to Energy Projects and Investments in the Region. In his address, Mr. Lanza emphasized the importance of enhancing regional cooperation as a central element for strengthening energy security and ensuring a stable, resilient energy network across the Adriatic and Ionian area. He stressed the need for national energy strategies to align with the broader objectives of the European Green Deal, highlighting that coordinated efforts are essential to achieve meaningful and lasting progress.
Mr. Lanza also underlined the decisive role of innovation, digitalisation, and the deployment of non-carbon energy sources in accelerating decarbonisation efforts. He reaffirmed the mission of BES as a platform dedicated to supporting the Balkan region through knowledge exchange, regulatory refinement, and capacity building. His intervention demonstrated once again the growing relevance of BES as a strategic and credible partner in shaping energy policies and promoting long-term cooperation throughout Southeast Europe.
A Successful and Forward-Looking Meeting
The workshop proved to be an important and forward-looking opportunity for countries and institutions of the Adriatic and Ionian Region to discuss shared challenges, explore emerging trends, and define priority actions for the next phase of regional energy development. Constructive dialogue among regulators, operators, ministries, and industry experts contributed to a more coherent understanding of common objectives and strengthened the collaborative spirit required for the region’s energy transition.
The event successfully supported the alignment of regional perspectives with European Union energy goals and provided clearer insight into the investments and policies needed to enhance resilience, encourage greater integration of renewable energy, and reinforce cross-border interconnections. The presence and active participation of BES highlighted the institution’s commitment to advancing the energy transition in the Balkans and to supporting stronger cooperation, innovation, and strategic vision across Southeast Europe.
